I have a piece in the Monster Show this Saturday at Masthead Print Studio. Come check it out!

Penmanship Show

I designed a poster for a Penmanship show to open during Design Philadelphia at the Vox Populi Gallery on Thursday, 10/13. More information is available on the event page.

Penmanship Poster

“A man’s penmanship is an unfailing index of his character, moral and mental, and a criterion by which to judge his peculiarities of taste and sentiments.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, Man of Letters

Penmanship, the exhibition, is a product of this idea—the idea that ones penmanship is a window into his or her character. A selection of local artists employ their inherent typographic instincts to create black and white prints. Born of a similar idea, the letterforms within the finished pieces are differentiated by shape, scale, contrast, manipulation and layering. A study of personal touch and distinction, the works you’ll see are a clear reflection of individual aesthetic.

While stuck inside hiding from the hurricane yesterday I threw together a quick typeface. Download the EPS.

MMS Gallery II

This Thursday, 2/10/11 is the opening for the MMS Gallery‘s 2nd show. The MMS Gallery is a showcase of creativity provided by everyday people through mobile photos. Whether they consider themselves actual artists or not. This shows theme is architecture. I submitted a couple flicks… Come out it’ll be a good time.

The MMS Gallery

I often take shots with my phones camera I wish I could do something with. A lot of them end up on facebook, sure, but generally I assume anything artistic is lost on the majority of my audience. Lets face it, people won’t see what they aren’t looking for. Well, enter The MMS Gallery, a collective of like minds in seeing (at least these) camera phone photos as art… Submitting is easy. Entering your photos now adds them to the online gallery and once the submission period has ended 236 will be selected for the first gallery show where they’ll be printed on 5×7 postcards. Kudos to Kenny, Hillary, and O3 World for doing this.

Ride The Tiger

This is my submission for Sedso Design’s latest collective show featuring stencil art. I chose to pay homage to Ronnie James Dio, who lost his battle with cancer last month. The guy was as innovative as they come and even in his sixtys, still put on a better show than just about anyone. Major chops. You Sir, will be missed.

The gallery opened Friday, June 4. A second opening happens Friday, July 2, 7:00pm – Midnight. There was some really cool stuff on display, I urge you to check it out. Pieces are on sale while they last. Modestly priced originals are hard to come by…

Check out some coverage of the event at Phrequency.

Sedso Stencil Show

My friends at Sedso Design are having another collective show… Get some, I implore you.

“Place Your Are Here is a series of exhibitions created by Sedso Design. Each exhibition starts with an open call for entries, but every show has a different set of guidelines that the artist must follow to be admitted into the final show.

Submissions for our current show, Stencil, must contain artwork created using a stencil and must be presented on the 11 X 14in chipboard that will be provided by Sedso in the ‘Stencil-Materials Package.’”

More information is available here.

Ticket designs

Being that I don’t like clutter, there isn’t much I collect. Show tickets are definitely an exception to the rule. One day I planned to wallpaper a room or do something really cool with them, but it appears my hopes and dreams have been crushed… Last week I went to pick up some tickets for shows that wouldn’t be sold out and I could definitely pay at the door. For the ticket of course…

Anyway, as the tickets were placed in front of me I couldn’t help but feel some type of way. Show tickets had looked generally the same ever since I could remember, but what was sitting in front of me was definitely different. I don’t know who’s idea it was to make these changes, but it seems the ticket vendors are behind it. I haven’t seen what Ticketmaster prints these days, but Live Nation and Ticket Fly (pictured below) just don’t do it for me. File show tickets with everything else that used to be better. I suppose my black t-shirt collection will have to suffice.

If anyone knows of or comes across an archive of ticket images please share it.

This Baroness jawn is what a ticket should look like.

The B-Town Skate Plaza

So… some friends from my hometown are building a Skate Plaza in Bethlehem. The short story is the city granted a piece of land and the space has already been designed and planned. On top of making all that happen, Andy Po and crew of Homebase Skateshop were able to raise funds for the first phase of the project which is already in progress. Now its time to find funding for the remaining phases… We’re lucky to be involved in the Pepsi Refresh Project, a competition that collects votes for different causes for 1 month, rewarding the top 2 to the tune of $250,000. We made the top ten last month so a re-enrollment in April was automatic, but obviously we have to step it up, so if you support kids having a place to skate, a new plaza for the city of Bethlehem, sentences with way too many commas in them or just feel like sparing a minute of your time to do me a favor… head over to The Bethlehem Skate Plaza on Pepsi Refresh and vote, it doesn’t take long and you wont get any spam from registering. Vote every day in march. Tell your friends. Thank you!

Sedso Art Show

Here are my submissions for a group show hosted by S3DSO Design Group. Hopefully this will be a regular thing so pay attention (more info here). The highlight of my night was meeting John Langdon, seeing him buy my print, and being told I studied his work well. Wow. Check  it out in this video from Philthy Blog.
